INDICATIONS
NOOTROPIL is indicated for patients experiencing myoclonus of cortical origin, inspite of aetiology, and may be utilized in conjunction with other anti-myoclonic therapies.

Adults :
The dosage regime shows important interindividual variability, requiring an individualised dose finding approach. A reasonable protocol is always to introduce piracetam with a dosage of 7.2 g/day, increasing by 4.8 g/day every 3 to 4 days to a maximum of 20g/day, shown in either several divided doses and other antimyoclonic drugs unchanged at their optimal dosage. If possible, according to clinical benefit, an attempt must be built to subsequently reduce the dosage of other antimyoclonic drugs.

The unwanted side effects reported in connection with Nootropil include nervousness, agitation, irritability, anxiety and sleep disturbances. The incidence of the during many studies was 5% or less plus they were more regularly noted in the older patients taking over 2.4 g daily. In the most of cases a dose reduction sufficed to produce these symptoms disappeared. Some patients may complain of fatigue or drowsiness. NOOTROPIL (Piracetam) is contra-indicated in patients with severe renal impairment (renal creatinine clearance of lower than 20 ml per minute), hepatic impairment and to those under 16 yrs . old. It is also contraindicated in patients with cerebral haemorrhage, Huntington's Chorea as well as in those that have hypersensitivity to piracetam, other pyrrolidone derivatives or some of the excipients .
